General Frequently Asked Plumbing Questions
Why does my toilet run?
The most frequent source of a running toilet is the toilet tank flapper that seals the water in the tank. If the flapper (or the valve seal) is damaged, water will continue to seep into the toilet bowl, resulting in it continually running.
What can I put in my garbage disposal?
Use cold water when disposing of foodstuffs. Do not put non-food items down the disposal. Liquids and soft foods can be disposed of without problems. Fibrous food such as celery, lettuce, potato peels, onion skins and the like are best left out of the disposal.
Are chemical drain cleaners safe to use?
Most drain cleaners use caustic ingredients that can and will cause damage to pipes. Drain cleaners that are used frequently in old pipes may result in the pipe damage. In plastic pipes, chemical drain cleaners can create heat, causing the pipes to warp. Chemical drain cleaners are harmful to the environment and septic systems.
Why do we run out of hot water so quickly?
There are several reasons why you may be running out of hot water too fast. The most likely cause is because of sediments in the water. They build up and sink to the bottom of the heater and take up space where water should be. Another reason is that your water heater may be too small. Your water heater may be too old to function correctly, or it may have a faulty thermostat.
Why does a drain become clogged?
Washroom drains clog as a result of an accumulation of grime, skin flakes, and hair binding to the walls of drain pipes. As time passes, this stubborn buildup reduces water flow. Kitchen sink drains clog because of grease, soap scum, and un-dissolved food particles.
Why is my faucet leaking?
The O ring is a crucial location where drips happen. The O ring may deteriorate with regular use, producing a drip near the handle. The valve seat can become corroded, leading to leaks around the spout area. A worn out washer is another common cause of a dripping faucet.
The good news is that all of these problems can be easily remedied with the help of an experienced plumber. Call us today for an appointment.
